Azure Vista during WWII

The San Diego History Center has this to say about Azure Vista:

TEMPORARY SUBURBS

"In the chaos of 1940 and 1941, federal agencies operating on rushed schedules exacerbated existing problems. New defense plants and housing developments for workers were located on isolated sites, stressing service networks to the breaking point; the Azure Vista housing project was located on an ocean bluff in an exclusive neighborhood, miles away from the nearest bus stop. Traffic jams clogged major roads and interfered with the war effort."

However, very little is mentioned about the development of this site.  Azure Vista was plotted out and owned by individuals who were compensated by the government in order to use the site for public housing for the workers building airplanes for the war effort. More well-known projects, such as Linda Vista and Vista Square in Chula Vista still have some original homes, however, most of Azure Vista is dramatically different today.

Rose and Howard in Azure Vista

Rose and Howard heard about the possibility of moving to a larger home more convenient to their respective work at Consolidated in February of 1943 -- the homes would have heating and an icebox included.  Their home in Mission Beach had no heating and cost them more.
